B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson will fight for an interim lightweight belt at UFC 80 in January in Newcastle, England, but UFC president Dana White will not strip Sean Sherk of his belt.
Sherk tested positive for an anabolic steroid following his successful title defense at UFC 73 on July 7 in Sacramento, CA, over Hermes Franca. The fighter was fined $2,500 by the California Athletic Commission and suspended for one year. Read more…

In a move that President Gary Shaw believes will improve fighter safety, Elite XC will implement new weight divisions.
“I am very concerned in the mixed martial arts world of this drastic cutting of weight,” said Shaw. Elite XC will remove the 155-pound weight class and add 140, 150 and 160-pound divisions.
The 160-pound division will be considered the leagues lightweight division and the champ will be the winner of the November 10 fight between Nick Diaz and KJ Noons.
The TC Palm is reporting that veteran UFC fighter Din Thomas will face a felony charge for allegedly running an unsanctioned MMA event inside his Port St. Lucie, Florida gym. Police were tipped off on October 19 that the 31 year old fighter would be holding fights in his training facility. Read more…
Graciemag is reporting that Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga will be fighting former Pride jujitsu stylist Fabricio Werdum at UFC 80 in Newcastle, England this January. The two BJJ black belts first met at a Brazilian event, Jungle Fight 1, in September, 2003 where Gonzaga was knocked out by Werdum. Read more…
Former UFC fighter Brad Imes submits Bo Cantrell via gogoplata at KOTC’s Arch Rivals show this past Saturday. Before New Year’s Eve 2006 the gogoplata submission was thought to be almost impossible to pull off during an MMA fight. Shinya Aoki changed that when he submitted Joachim Hansen with one in the first round of their fight at Shockwave, Pride’s biggest event of the year. Since then the gogoplata has been pop up more and more often. Although overturned, Nick Diaz submitted Pride champ Takanori Gomi with one a few months later. Read more…
